Random Times to Brainstorm like a Boss
Since I work full-time and run this blog during off hours, I’ve realized that I come up with blog topics during the most random times. Some days I’ll come up with blog ideas while waiting in line at the grocery store, and other days I’ll come up with a topic during a scheduled brainstorming session. It depends on the day and what’s on my plate at any given moment. As much as I love brainstorming sessions, I don’t get the opportunity to schedule them as often as I’d like. Instead, here are 7 random times I tend to brainstorm.

1. In the Shower.

I love taking long showers, and I’m sure our water company loves that too. I come up with the best ideas while relaxing in the shower, because there’s no technology to distract me. Social media and news websites can become a huge distraction if I’m trying to research new blog post ideas.

2. In the Car.

I have a 40 minute commute to and from work every day, so I have a lot of time to think. Some days I’ll turn on an inspirational podcast, while other times I’ll just want to listen to music.

3. While Cooking.

I’m not the best cook, but I’m trying to get better. That being said, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. I’m one of those cooks that likes standing around waiting for water to boil or the oven to heat. I come up with my favorite recipe posts while in my kitchen. Surprisingly, much more than when I’m browsing Pinterest.

4. Lying in Bed.

I don’t bring my laptop into the bedroom because there has to be a line drawn between work and relaxation. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t jot down post ideas on my phone! I also keep a notebook on my bedside table.

5. Walking the Dog.

I think I mentioned this before, but Pete takes the longest walks. It’s probably his short legs, but it takes him forever to walk around our complex. He gets distracted so easily. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I’m looking forward to putting in my earbuds, listening to some great music and going for longer walks with Pete. It will give me time to decompress and think about topics I really want to write about.

6. Brushing Your Teeth.

Some people do exercises while brushing their teeth. I, on the other hand, enjoy scrolling through Pinterest and Twitter for blog inspiration.

7. In a New Location.

This one is pretty obvious. If you’re having trouble brainstorming an idea for something, change your location! If I’m hitting a wall with a post, I enjoy packing up and going to Barnes & Noble or Starbucks. The change in scenery (+ caffeine) give me the jolt I need to finish a project.

Thanks so much for reading my post today!
