We’re getting personal today peeps. In a few weeks, I’ll be doing a post about my current favorite skincare secrets for acne-prone/sensitive skin but I’m giving you a little preview today. I’m talking about my newest “ride or die” product. Something that I’ve known about for years but finally purchased. Something that has seriously transformed my skin. The BEST acne spot treatment.

What am I talking about?! The Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. Before I continue, let me be clear. They aren’t paying me to mention them, and they didn’t send me free product either. I bought it from Ulta using my own cash money {well, technically my debit card… but you get the idea}.

Here’s the backstory on what pushed me over the edge to buy it. Due to some health reasons, I had to switch birth control pills last month. I’d been on the same pill for 8 or 9 years, so I knew that I’d probably have some side effects when changing it up. What I didn’t know, was how bad it would be.

The new pill made me irritable, gave me terrible mood swings, and worst of all painful hormonal acne. EW, I know. It’s a part of life but it sucks and I’m talking about it. My skin is already mildly acne-prone/sensitive, but the new medication made it SO much worse. Once one huge breakout started to go away, another one popped up immediately afterward. In the three weeks I was on the new pill, I had 4 painful breakouts. I’m not talking about tiny whiteheads. I’m referring to HUGE, DEEP, cystic pimples that were so painful that I had to take Advil to make the pain go away.

Although my doc pulled me off of that pill and gave me a new one, I knew I had to find a kick-ass spot treatment to get rid of my current acne and prevent scarring. That’s when I picked up Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion. I had heard people talking about it for years, and Kylie Jenner recently raved about it, so I figured “Why the hell not?!”

I typically don’t fall for the hype. When someone raves about a product, it takes me forever to finally try it out. But I am SO glad I gave this one a shot. Usually if I get a painful hormonal breakout, it lasts for at least a week and a half before going away. This past week, I used the Drying Lotion and my acne went away in 3 days. THREEEE DAYS.

What’s in this magical bottle?

Obviously, this isn’t a natural product, but sometimes you just need something a bit more powerful than tea tree oil {my other fav}. The drying lotion contains isopropyl alcohol, deionized water, calamine, camphor, colloidal sulfur, salicylic acid, glycerine, zine oxide, titanium dioxide and talc.

How do you use it?

  • Don’t shake the bottle. The ingredients should be separated.
  • After cleansing your face, dip a Q-tip into the bottle to get the product out.
  • Apply directly to the pimple. Don’t rub it in.
  • Don’t use on broken skin. It WILL BURN.

Trust me on this. If you get the occasional breakout, you need this product. Almost 1,000 people on Amazon feel the same way. The product has 4.5 stars! I wouldn’t mention it here if I didn’t think it was worth every penny. If you’ve tried this out before, comment below! I want to know your thoughts.

I think i need this. My skin gets SO bad around that time of the month and I’m supposed to be going away to the beach this weekend.

I like using Tea Tree essential oil as a spot treatment. It works well and it’s totally natural!

Me too! But sometimes I just need something different. I’m a huge fan of tea tree oil tho!
