favorite natural beauty brands

It’s no secret that I love trying out natural beauty products. Back in 2015, I started swapping out the chemical-filled products in my home with ones that are a bit more eco-friendly. I’m going to get “preachy” for a minute, because this is important. Since our skin is like a sponge, we tend to absorb whatever we place on our body, including the chemicals and weird ingredients that we can’t pronounce. The FDA says that chemicals in skincare and beauty products are safe in small doses, but think about how much makeup, creams, and perfumes an average woman wears on a daily basis. YUCK.

I haven’t found replacements for every single one of my beauty products, but I’ve definitely made some progress. I’ve tried SO many different brands, some better than others … so today I’m sharing my favorite natural beauty brands and the products that I love from each.

You can find a lot of these products at Whole Foods or even at Target, but since I’m lazy, I usually just order them via Amazon Prime. Because let’s be serious… who has the time to deal with the crowds on the weekends? I’ve included Amazon links throughout this post, so you can easily shop any product that you’re interested in trying. Let’s hop right into it.

Blue Lizard

I’m overly nervous when I spend time in the sun. Maybe it’s because I was REALLY STUPID as a teen and slathered myself in baby oil to get a tan. Well, that didn’t turn out the way I thought it would because I ended up with severe sunburn. Lesson learned. So, the first product I want to mention today is my favorite natural sunscreen brand, Blue Lizard. Full disclosure: I worked with this brand on a sponsored post a few months ago. I had time to try the product beforehand and formulate a real opinion. Obviously, I loved it because I wouldn’t have posted about it if I felt otherwise. After the post went live, I continued to use the sunscreen throughout the rest of the summer. I brought it with me every time I went to the pool, so I can tell you with 100% confidence that Blue Lizard definitely keeps your skin protected from the sun.

Aztec Secret

Although I use a lot of different face masks, one of my favorite natural versions is from Aztec Secret. This is one of those products that is constantly featured in beauty magazines, but that I feel like really lives up to its hype. It’s 100% natural calcium bentonite clay, and has been used for centuries for its healing properties. Calcium bentonite clay has a bunch of benefits, which you can read about all over the Internet. I was hesitant to try it at first, since my skin is pretty sensitive, but after seeing that the product had 4.5 stars and over 11,000 reviews on Amazon, I had to give it a try. For me, I’ve noticed that continued use of the mask reduces acne inflammation and leftover scarring, shrinks pores, and gets rid of any flaky spots.

Tom’s of Maine

Toothpaste was one of the first items in my bathroom that I tried switching over to a more natural brand. Think of it this way. It goes directly in your mouth! If I’m being cautious about ingesting artificial sweeteners and preservatives from my food, I definitely should be concerned with crap in my toothpaste. I’ve been a huge fan of Tom’s of Maine toothpaste for a couple of years now. I’ve tried other natural toothpastes and none of them really ever gave me that “clean” feeling. You know what I mean? Unlike a lot of traditional toothpaste brands, Tom’s doesn’t contain nasty artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.

Kiss My Face

Similar to natural toothpaste, I’ve tried a bunch of natural deodorants over the years. I feel like the items on the market are either great or terrible. There’s no in-between in terms of deodorant. I know a lot of people who like Piper Wai deodorant {the one from Shark Tank}, but I personally haven’t tried that one yet. My favorite is lavender Liquid Rock from Kiss My Face. It’s free from parabens, aluminum, animal ingredients, and artificial colors and fragrances.  It’s a roll-on, so if you aren’t used to that, it’s definitely something different. But trust me, it works. I put it on in the mornings and it keeps me smelling good all day, and then I’ll reapply before working out. I’ve told so many friends about this product and many of them now swear by it too.

Dr. Lipp

Dr. Lipp is by far the best lip balm I’ve ever tried in my life. I seriously have a tube of Dr. Lipp with me everywhere I go – especially when I’m traveling! The dry airplane air can be a total pain, so Dr. Lipp is one of my essentials. I’ve told so many friends about it and they all love it too. {Even Bryan, who is really picky.} It’s made from 100% lanolin, which comes from sheep’s wool. Don’t worry, it’s not harmful to the animals at all. It’s extracted after the sheep have been shorn during the summer. The brand only uses lanolin from Australian sheep who graze freely and whose fleece aren’t marked with toxic paint. But back to the balm… if you’re a nursing mom, you’re probably familiar with using lanolin for chapped nipples. It’s no surprise that the ingredient would also be great for your lips since the skin there is also really thin. Lanolin speeds up the recovery of chapped skin and helps protect it against harsh environments.

Eminence

Boy oh boy. Where do I start with Eminence? Eminence is the best. I’ve tried so many of their products and ended up loving almost every one. I use their face wash and dermafoliant every single night in the shower. Those two products are my absolute must-haves. Other Eminence products I love are their Clear Skin Probiotic Mask and the Clear Skin Willow Bark Serum. Both are absolutely perfect if you have sensitive, acne-prone skin or if you have acne scarring that you need to clear up.
