Featured in my College Magazine!

Many of you might not know that my day job is in marketing. Specifically I do content marketing, which means a lot of writing for brochures, websites, and other pieces of collateral. Another HUGE part of my job is social media management for a bunch of business page accounts. It’s a lot of fun! Before getting the job I have now, I worked in public relations. I learned a lot about positioning brands, cultivating their story, and sharing that story with relevant news media.

For 2016, one of my goals was to bring together my professional background and use that knowledge to focus even more on the Simply Nicole brand. I wanted to take time to pitch my own story to the media and get my brand story heard by a larger audience. In January, I was featured in the business section of my local newspaper, which was awesome! When I heard that the story ran in print, I immediately picked up numerous copies. It was really one of the first real media hits I had for the blog, and I’m super proud of it.

Next up on my business wishlist was to get featured in my university magazine‘s alumni profile section. I started pitching my story to the appropriate contacts there. It took almost eight months for everything to come about. This included my original pitch email, many follow up emails, and a phone interview. I wasn’t sure exactly when the article would run, but yesterday I opened my mailbox, found the summer issue of the magazine and there I was! This goes to show you that persistence and patience really pays off, my friends.
