Friday Favorites

Happy Friday, everyone. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a Friday Favorites post, but I’m excited to be back. This week surprisingly didn’t drag too much, but I’m very thankful the weekend is almost here. I don’t have much planned aside from spending time with Pete, working on blog projects, running errands and cleaning/organizing our apartment. Let’s get into my favorites for the week.

Aztec Healing Clay

1. Aztec Healing Clay Mask

I’ve read so many great things about Aztec Healing Clay. It has 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon with over 5,000 reviews! Although it’s liked by many, I’ve been hesitant to give it a try since my skin reacts negatively to most products. I’m not sure what made me step outside my comfort zone, but yesterday I purchased this from Whole Foods. It’s very inexpensive ($6.99) at Whole Foods, but if you don’t have a store nearby, you can also purchase from Amazon

I’ll probably do a whole post about the clay mask, but basically you mix equal parts clay and either apple cider vinegar (ACV) or water. Since I have really dry skin, I mixed with water for the first try. I didn’t see any negative effects, which is surprising for my skin. Generally when I try a new product, my skin is red and splotchy for a while afterward. (Note: your skin may be red for 20-30 minutes after using the clay mask. Every review I read mentioned that, so don’t be worried if that happens.) Eventually, I’ll do half ACV half water, then all ACV, since it helps with de-clogging your pores.

2. Dinner at Seasons 52

Seasons 52 is one of my favorite restaurants, so I was stoked when Bryan’s grandmother wanted to take us there for dinner. The summer menu was launched this week, which meant lots of new and delicious options to pick from. Seasons 52 has always been accommodating to my dietary needs, especially being gluten and dairy free (which hopefully won’t be for much longer). I ordered the sea scallops with a side of the summer veggies, and had them cooked in oil as opposed to lemon butter. Instead of the risotto it normally is served with, I chose a bed of sautéed spinach. YUM, YUM, YUM! The scallops were cooked perfectly and everything was so flavorful. Seasons 52 never disappoints.

3. Crazy Storms

Normally a storm wouldn’t be in my Friday Favorites, but this time it is! After the rain subsided on Wednesday, we were left with a crazy colored sky. The photo doesn’t do it justice, but my neighborhood looked like it was in a sepia filter. I wish I would’ve pulled out our DSLR and snapped a few photos. My iPhone is great and all, but sometimes you need a higher quality camera.

4. New Books

Currently on my bedside table I have Rich Bitch, All the Light We Cannot See and The Fault in Our Stars (which I haven’t actually started reading yet). I hope to finish All the Light in the next week or so. I’ve been too tired to read before bed lately, so I’m going to start heading to bed a bit earlier in order to give myself time to unwind and enjoy a few chapters. If you’ve read any of these books, please comment below and let me know your thoughts. No spoilers please!
