Some of this post was written on my flight on Wednesday and the rest was filled in throughout the week.

Good morning from up in the air someplace above the midwest. Right now, all I want to do is face plant onto the bed in our hotel room. But, I’m also super excited to explore La Jolla. Oh the struggle. If I know Bryan, he’s going to want to power through the day and just save sleep for later. I think once I feel the warm California air and see the ocean and palm trees, it won’t take much to convince me.

Here are my Friday Favorites – San Diego edition.

friday favs

1. Pretty sunrises

Late on Tuesday night I received notification that our original flight from Philly to NYC was delayed, thus causing us to miss our flight from NYC to San Diego. I called Delta right away, and they were very helpful in rebooking us on new flights. Our connecting flight ended up being in Detroit, and we actually arrived in San Diego an hour earlier than we would have if we flew out of NYC.

I think I got maybe two hours of sleep on Tuesday night, because I waited until the very last minute to pack. So if this post doesn’t make much sense, I’m blaming it on that. Sleeping on the flight wasn’t the easiest thing to do, but I was able to catch a killer sunrise.

2. The Grand Colonial Hotel & Nine-Ten

The Grand Colonial Hotel provided us with a complimentary stay & dinner. However, all opinions are my own. When we arrived in San Diego, we checked into The Grand Colonial Hotel in La Jolla. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, and I’ll be sharing an entire post about it very soon. However, I do want to mention that the view from our room was insane. The food at Nine-Ten, the hotel’s restaurant, was on point. Bryan had the squab (some sort of pigeon) and I ordered the cod. DELICIOUS.

3. Dinner with Family

Last night, Bryan and I had dinner with his aunt and uncle who live in Carlsbad. We haven’t seen them since our wedding, so we were thrilled that they were able to meet up with us on our trip. We had dinner at an Italian restaurant in La Jolla called Piatti’s. I researched a bit on Yelp and TripAdvisor beforehand and many reviews mentioned the saffron pappardelle. The dish had pappardelle pasta with shrimp, tomatoes, garlic, chili flakes, arugula, lemon and a white wine broth. Of course, that’s what I ordered and it did not disappoint! The pasta was made in-house and you can certainly taste the difference! Great food + great company + great conversation = an A+ night.

4. Hotel Del Coronado

Yesterday, Bryan and I went to Coronado Island. We walked around a bit, but spent most of the time at the Hotel Del Coronado. The hotel is absolutely stunning and was where the movie “Some Like It Hot” was filmed. It was clear to see why the beach on Coronado was named one of the most beautiful in the world.
