I week or so ago I wrote about how I may be interested in started a book club. Since I published that post, I’ve received great interest, so that’s what going to happen! Before I announce the book that I’ve chosen for January, I want to introduce you to an amazing service called Scribd that you may want to use if you’re interested in reading. Scribd is an e-book subscription service that has over 500,000 books, including New York Times bestsellers, literary classics, groundbreaking non-fiction, and more in every genre. You can read instantly on your mobile devices anywhere. Just download the Scribd app onto your iPhone, iPad , Android or Kindle Fire, or access your downloads on Scribd.com.

And guess what? Scribd has put together a super amazing deal for Simply Nicole readers. If you go to www.scribd.com/promo/simplynicole you will get 3 months FREE of unlimited downloads! (I’m not getting paid to mention this, nor am I getting compensated if you sign up.) I figured that you might want to take advantage of this, since the book I chose for January can be downloaded on Scribd!

So without further ado, after doing a lot of research, I think I found a winner. January’s book is The Most Beautiful Walk in the World: A Pedestrian in Paris by John Baxter.

January Book Club

Here’s a summary from the back cover:

Thrust into the unlikely role of professional “literary walking tour” guide, an expat writer provides the most irresistibly witty and revealing tour of Paris in years.

In this enchanting memoir, acclaimed author and long- time Paris resident John Baxter remembers his yearlong experience of giving “literary walking tours” through the city. Baxter sets off with unsuspecting tourists in tow on the trail of Paris’s legendary artists and writers of the past. Along the way, he tells the history of Paris through a brilliant cast of characters: the favorite cafés of Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and James Joyce; Pablo Picasso’s underground Montmartre haunts; the bustling boulevards of the late-nineteenth-century flâneurs; the secluded “Little Luxembourg” gardens beloved by Gertrude Stein; the alleys where revolutionaries plotted; and finally Baxter’s own favorite walk near his home in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve had an obsession with Paris. I’ve never been there (yet!), but I hope it’s as magical as I envision it. I’m looking forward to reading this book to hopefully get a glimmer of what a walk in Paris is truly like.
