January: The Month of More

  /
January 6, 2016

I’ve nicknamed January, The Month of More. Why? It’s easy to make new year’s resolutions and forget about them by mid January, so I’m hoping that by planning ahead a bit, I’ll be able to work towards my resolutions all year long. One of those plans is to make January all about doing more. December was filled with lots of sugar, alcohol, and limited sleep, so I’m feeling a bit meh as I start off the new year. I’m excited to detox a bit and fill myself with positivity, healthy foods and inspiration. Below are four ways that I’m making January the Month of More.

yoga at home

1. More Sweat

I’ve been a huge fan of yoga for a long time now, but sometimes going to a studio isn’t budget-friendly. To get my yoga fix, I like to practice at home while following along with YouTube videos. One of my favorites is Yoga With Adriene. I’m currently participating in her Yoga Camp video series. I watch a video and practice yoga every morning before work. It’s such a wonderful part of my day.

This month, I also want to get back into the gym and do a bit of weight training at least once a week. It’s a small goal, but hey! I have to start somewhere. My gym time will be a nice getaway from the barking of my dog. It will give me a chance to sweat, listen to some good music, and get my blood pumping.

2. More Water

This one is self explanatory. I need to drink more water. I know that I prefer Smart Water over filtered tap, so I’ve been buying bottles here and there. That can get pricey though, so I’ve also been using a new water bottle to keep me inspired to drink more. I love my glass Ello bottles, so I got another one! The teal “Coachella” bottle is super cute (can a water bottle be cute?) and makes any type of water taste much more delicious. Of course, it’s also BPA free, so I’m on board.

I’m keeping track of how much water I’m drinking by using a bracelet from Chelsea Charles called Count Me Healthy. I’ll be talking more about it next week, but basically it’s a silver bangle with movable beads. In the beginning of the day, I move all the beads to one side of the bracelet. After each bottle of water I drink, I move a bead to the other side. That way, I’m able to keep track of my water intake.

5 minute journal

3. More Reflection

Journaling used to be a daily routine for me, but over the past view years I sort of forgot about it. I’m hoping to get more into journaling this month and really taking the time to self-reflect every night before bed. Currently, I sit on my iPhone until I fall asleep. Definitely not the most relaxing habit I’ve ever had. Usually it ends up keeping me even more awake. It also makes me anxious since I end up checking emails and worrying about the next day. I’m hoping that journaling will become a nighttime habit this month.

4. More Books

As I mentioned yesterday, I want to read more books this year and have already outlined my 8 must-read books in 2016. I’m halfway through Dark Placesand want to finish it by next week. I also just started Adventures for Your Soul by Shannon Kaiser and have highlighted so many great tidbits. I’ll be sure to share my thoughts on both books here on the blog once I’m finished.

Happy January!
I think you would enjoy Ann Voskamp’s book 1,000 Gifts. It’s a beautiful and life changing read. 🙂

Oo, I’ll have to check that out. Thanks, Shannon 🙂
