Lately: Wedding, Sickness, Blogging & TV

July 11, 2017

Hi all. The summer has literally been flying by. It’s already basically mid-July! A part of me is happy, because my favorite season is fall {SO incredibly basic, I know}, but the other part of me enjoys spending weekends at the pool soaking up the sun. You feel me? Can’t I have it all!?

But anyway, things have been super quiet here on the blog lately, because life has been crazy these days. I figured it was a good time to go a Lately post and give you guys an update on what’s been going on. So go grab a cup of coffee and let’s get started.

Attended a Wedding in Atlanta

Alrighty, first up was a quick trip to Atlanta for our friends’ wedding. Although we had a blast, it was definitely exhausting. Our flight was supposed to depart around 8am on Friday, but we ended up sitting on the plane for a two-hour delay due to computer issues. It definitely wasn’t the way I wanted to start our vacation weekend.

Once we got to Atlanta though, we had a great time. The wedding was gorgeous even with a quick rain shower thrown in. I wish we could have extended our trip and made our way to Savannah for a day, but I really wanted to get home to Pete. Our in-laws was kind enough to watch him for the weekend, so I didn’t want to take advantage of that.

Caught a Nasty Cold

Boy oh boy. When I got home from Atlanta, I almost immediately caught a nasty cold. At first I thought it might have been strep throat, because I had a fever and I legit couldn’t swallow without being in terrible pain. I don’t play with fevers, so I went to the doctor and luckily it wasn’t strep. But because of that, the doctor wouldn’t give me any antibiotics, which meant that it’s taking forever to get rid of it. If I’m being honest, I’m still not 100%, but I’m definitely feeling better as the days go on.

It’s kind of ironic because before I left for Atlanta, I made sure to look back at my How to Stay Healthy While Traveling post. And what did I do when I got on the plane? I forgot to wipe everything down with a WetWipe like a crazy person. Amateur mistake. Obviously, there’s no way of knowing how I got sick, but I definitely should have taken more precautions.

Researched for a Blog Refresh

It seems like it was just yesterday when I underwent a blog refresh, but in all honesty, it’s been a few years. A few years in the blogging world is forever! So many things change: SEO tips, design trends and mobile-friendly requirements. With that being said, I’ve been researching new layout options to give this little old blog a much needed refresh. I’m looking for a template that allows for wider images, maybe without a sidebar {since it’s completely useless}, and a more dynamic homepage.

I’m currently loving a lot of the templates on Pipdig, including this, this and this. If you’re a blog template designer, send me the link to your site so I can check out your designs.

Watched a Lot of TV

Since I’ve been sick this past week, I’ve definitely been laying low and just relaxing at home a lot. You know what that means – TV time! I’m watching some of my summer staples – i.e. Big Brother and Bachelorette – but I’m also catching up on this random Freeform show on Netflix called Young and Hungry. Side note, is anyone else completely bored with the Bachelorette this season? It’s such a snooze fest. Maybe it’s just not for me, but I can NOT get into it. Every Monday, I catch up on other shows and end up watching the Bachelorette later in the the week when I have time.

Pop Sugar Must Have Box

You’ve heard me rave about the POPSUGAR Must Have Box dozens of times, so it’s no surprised that the June box totally rocked. POPSUGAR sent me their June box to try and it did not disappoint. My favorite item was this ALOHA Collection splash-proof zip pouch, which I’ve been using non-stop at the pool. It’s perfect for carrying my essentials, as well as for storing my wet bathing suit.

To get your own Must Have Box, use code SHOP5 for $5 off your first order. http://bit.ly/2sSjmdG
