Wedding Dress Shopping

On Saturday morning at 7:16, I hopped on a train to New York City with Bryan’s mom, Bryan’s sister, my sister and my aunt.  The occasion?  Wedding dress shopping!  I made an appointment with Pronovias a month ago, and the day finally arrived.

We arrived in NYC around 9AM and stopped to get some Starbucks for what I thought would be a long day of shopping.  I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t.

Pronovias didn’t open until 10AM, so we stood outside for a little bit until we were able to go in.  The store was everything that I had dreamed it would be.  Classic, elegant and luxurious.

I was introduced to my bridal consultant, Leanor, who was absolutely fantastic.  We talked about what styles and fabrics I liked and didn’t like and also talked about my budget.  After that, we all got into the elevator (yes, Pronovias is a multi-level boutique!) and arrived on the floor with my fitting room.

I put on my silk robe and meandered around for a little while I waited for Leanor to pull the dresses from the back.

I had five dresses during round one.  I tried a variety of different styles and some worked and some definitely didn’t work.  I won’t say any more than that – Bryan reads my blog!

After round one, I was pretty sure I knew which dress was the “one”, but I wanted to try on just a few more.  I ended up only trying two more and knew that I wanted to put back on the dress from round one.  I even said no to trying one dress on because it looked like something I would wear to a prom.  My eyes were set on one of the dresses from round one and I couldn’t get it out of my mind.

I put back on the veil and dress #3 and that was that.  It just felt right.  I can’t explain it any better than that.  My family all agreed that it was it.  Thank goodness!  After watching hundreds of episodes of Say Yes to the Dress, I knew that sometimes the family doesn’t always agreed with the bride.  I got lucky with this bunch!

I knew the second the dress went on that it was the one.  It was everything I had ever imagined it would be.  When you know, you know.  The day was so easy and stress-free.  I always anticipate things going the worst it could possibly go.  That way I can’t be too disappointed.  But Saturday was PERFECT.

My first fitting isn’t until the end of February, so I have a while to find my shoes.  The shoes I had originally thought would go well with any dress, may not be exactly what I need, but I’m glad I had a few months to make that decision.

I SAID YES TO THE DRESS!
