Yogi Tea Review

July 13, 2010
The wonderful folks over at Yogi Tea sent me 6 boxes of tea to review for you all. They sent me: Woman’s Energy (not pictured), Ginger (not pictured), Bedtime, Kava Stress Relief, Detox & Breathe Deep. They teas were filled with flavor.

Woman’s Energy- Helps Balance Hormones: Caffeine Free, 100% natural, Herbal tea, Dong Quai Root Extract, Cinnamon, Orange Peel, Finger Root, Fennel Seed, Chamomile flower, Dandelion Root, Anise Seed, Stinging Nettle Leaf, Orange Oil, Stevia Leaf & Black Pepper
(Do not use when pregnant or nursing)

*I really enjoyed this tea because of its spiced flavor. It had a strong cinnamon flavor with a hint of chamomile flavor. If you enjoy chamomile tea, you will enjoy this tea. I drink my tea with milk and sugar, and sometimes adding other flavors can diminish the flavor of the tea itself, but not this tea!

Bedtime- Promotes Restful Sleep : Caffeine Free, 100% natural, Herbal tea, Valerian Root Extract, Passion Flower Extract, Licorice Root, Spearmint Leaf, Chamomile Flower, Skullcap Leaf, Cardamom Seed, Cinnamon Bark, St. John’s Wort Leaf & flower, Rose Hip, Raspberry Leaf, English Lavender Flower, Stevia Leaf, Natural Orange Flavor

*This is the perfect blend of mint and licorice for a great tea before bedtime. St. John’s Wort has been shown to have positive effects on mood and Passion Flower helps reduce anxiety in order to promote sleep. I found this tea to be actually very good at a warm temperature instead of piping hot.

Ginger- Improves Digestion:  Caffeine Free, 100% natural, Herbal tea, Ginger Root, Lemongrass, Licorice Root, Peppermint Leaf, Black Pepper

*I never tried a Ginger tea before this, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. However, Yogi Tea’s Ginger tea is the perfect blend of ginger and peppermint. I tasted the ginger right away and tastes exactly like fresh ginger that you would get from a sushi bar, without the soapy like aftertaste.

Kava Stress Relief- Eases Tension and Promotes Relaxation:  Caffeine Free, 100% natural, Herbal tea, Kava Root Extract, Carob Pod, Indian Sarsaprilla Root, Cinnamon Bark, Ginger Root, Cardamom Seed, Stevia Leaf (Do not use if you have liver problems, or are taking medication)

*I take daily medication so I have not tried this product.

Detox- Promotes Healthy Liver and Kidney Function: Caffeine Free, 100% natural, Herbal tea, Sarsaparilla, Cinnamon, Ginger, Licorice, Burdock, Dandelion, Cardamom, Clove, Black Pepper, Juniper Berry, Long Pepper Berry, Chinese Amur Cork Tree Bark, Japanese Honeysuckle, (+more)
*Great flavor, not too spicy, sort of made me tired

Breathe Deep- Supports Clear Breathing: Licorice Root, Eucalyptus Leaf, Basil Leaf, Ginger Root, Cinnamon Bark, Thyme Leaf, Elecampane Root, Peppermint Leaf, Cardamom Seed, Mullein Leaf

*Favorite tea that was sent, helped with my sinuses and allergies! Minty and does actually make breathing easier!

In 1969, Yogi Bhajan, an inspiring teacher of holistic living, started teaching yoga in America. He served his students spiced tea, which they named “Yogi Tea”. The original recipe contained cardamom seed, cinnamon bark, clove bud, ginger root and black pepper. In 1984, the Yogi Tea Company was born in Southern California. In 1986, the tea was distributed nationwide in three flavors. Today, Yogi Tea has 60 tea blends, and many contain the five original spices. Yogi Tea has been creating all-natural, organic products for more than 30 years. To ensure quality, the ingredients are reviewed and tested for insecticides, pesticides and metals. Each tea bag is 100% oxygen bleached paper bags, sewn with cotton strings. The bags are then packed in heat sealed envelopes to maintain freshness!

Yogi Principles *Found on the YogiTea website

  • Tasting great is essential, but it isn’t enough. If what we make doesn’t taste great and leave you feeling great, we won’t make it.
  • We think before we blend or bake. How will our recipes work with body and mind?
  • Health is found in nature. We work with what nature already offers rather than trying to concoct it. We don’t -Creative combinations can optimize what nature has to offer.
  • Ever added Goji Berry to Ginger? They work together to produce a remarkably fresh and innovative taste… and a remarkable level of energy.
  • Whenever possible, we work with wholes, not parts. We don’t add vitamin C. We add Indian Gooseberry, which is naturally rich in vitamin C.

I have been buying Yogi Teas for over a year now and love them. However, each box says there is a $1.00 off coupon inside. That’s true, but for over a year the coupons are outdated and expired on 12/31/2015. I just bought three boxes yesterday at Vitamin Cottage, and they are all dated the same. Vitamin Cottage will not honor these coupons. What’s up with this??
