Runner’s World Half & Festival

  /
September 12, 2012

I love Bethlehem, PA.  Iโ€™ve been there a few times for MusikFest and fell in love with the city:  the old architecture, the Bethlehem Steel Mill, the hip but relaxed downtown.  Bethlehem is not only home to MusikFest.  It is also the home of Runnerโ€™s World Magazine.  (OK, Runnerโ€™s World Magazine is in Emmaus, PA., but itโ€™s very close by).

When I started running last year, Runnerโ€™s World was the only magazine I would purchase to find training tips for newbies, nutrition and more.  As I am in the midst of my , I still find that Runnerโ€™s World is extremely informative.  Whether you are training for your first 5K or your 30th marathon, the magazine trumps all others.

This October, the magazine is hosting the inaugural Runner’s World Half Marathon Festival in Bethlehem.  Donโ€™t worry if youโ€™re not a half marathoner yet (b/c Iโ€™m certainly not), because itโ€™s not just a half marathonโ€ฆ itโ€™s a full weekend of events and festivities from October 19-21.

Hereโ€™s a brief list of some of the activities planned that weekend:

Friday, 10/19:

  • Health and Fitness Expo

Saturday, 10/20:

  • 5K
  • 10K
  • Kids Races
  • a dinner with the editors
  • seminars such as Tips for Beginning Runners, Priming Your Body for Peak Performance and How Every Runner Can Get Better.

Sunday, 10/21:

  • half marathon

Thank you to the amazing people at Runnerโ€™s World have been so generous to invite me to participate in this inaugural event!  A few other FitFluential bloggers and I will be attending, taking a lot of photos and tweeting/instagraming etc. live from the event (you can follow via #RWHalf) and running our little hearts out.

Oh, by the way in case you werenโ€™t totally sure about coming yetโ€ฆ three-time Olympian, Shalane Flanagan, is going to be there.  Yanno, Kara Goucherโ€™s training buddy?!

Iโ€™ll be running the 10K to prepare for the Philadelphia Marathon a few weeks after.  I initially had hopes to run this half as a training run, but I donโ€™t want to risk getting injured because this course is pretty hilly!

The price to run at this event ranges from $40 for the 5K to $90 for the half, which you can find on the Runnerโ€™s World registration page.  Howeverโ€ฆ. because I love you all so much and want to meet you all there, you wonโ€™t have to pay full price!

I am very excited!! I wish I could be there on Friday but I will be there Saturday and running the 1/2 on Sunday!! Look forward to meeting you!

I’m excited to meet you too! I’m bummed because I think bloggers are meeting Shalane on Friday.

SO excited for this! And can’t wait to meet you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yay! same here! Been a reader of yours for a while!

Nice feature on PA! My mom was actually born in Bethlehem! As kids, we used to go there all the time to visit our cousins. Now I leave in San Diego, so it’s a little of a hike ;). good luck in the race! Hope you meet Shalane- I love reading/watching about her as well.

Hi Ali. Thanks for checking out my blog! I love San Diego! I hope to move there one day. My cousin lives in PB and I’ve been there a few times. Best place in the world!

Yay! Glad that you’ll be participating!

I desperately tried to get a job at Rodale this past summer (Runner’s World parent company), but no dice. It would’ve been an hour drive for me but so worth it!

Are you going as well? I tried to get a job there as well a year ago, but same thing with me… it was about an hour drive.

If you get to meet Shalane, that would be aweseome. They usually announce who is going to be at the expo… my bet is she will be at a sponsors booth at some point. Hit her up on twitter as it gets closer.

I hope she’s at some events on Saturday because that’s the only day I’ll be there ๐Ÿ™

Definitely SUPER JEALOUS!!! What a great opportunity! I know the point of being there is running, but the whole atmosphere will be to die for, so sure of it!
Gah! I love Shalane, too! All of it!! Wish I could be there something fierce!!

Shalane is awesome! I hope I get to see her on Saturday at some point. The atmosphere will be great, I’m sure. Bethlehem is such a cool town.

Oh my goodness! I’m so jealous! I love Shalane! I can’t wait to read about it ๐Ÿ™‚

๐Ÿ™‚ Jessica, are you local?

Unfortunately, no. ๐Ÿ™ I wish I was though! I saw that Shalane is going to be signing autographs and speaking. I’m completely fangirling right now haha ๐Ÿ™‚ Will you be at her speaking event?

Probably not. The only day I can go is Saturday. Is she speaking on Saturday?

I believe she is speaking Saturday. It’s the Womens Running seminar in the afternoon ๐Ÿ™‚

so jealoussss! I wanted to do the 10K here so bad but it just didn’t work in my schedule! Have a great time! Can’t wait to see the recaps!
