I’ve had “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne on my bookshelf for years now.  I purchased it sometime during college and have probably read it three times.  I don’t actually remember the day I brought this book home, but it has enlightened me to change my way of thinking multiple times.

The actual “secret” isn’t really that hard to grasp.  The secret is the law of attraction.  The law of attraction basically says that everything enters your life because you attract it into your life.  It is attracted to you, based on the images you hold in your mind.

I know what you’re thinking… “Nicole, you’ve fallen off the deep end.”

But I promise you I am not here to lecture you on how to live your life, I just want to give an overview of this book incase any of you were interested in buying it yourself.

According to this book,

“Fragments of a Great Secret have been found in the oral traditions in literature, in religions and philosophies throughout the centuries.  In this book, you’ll learn how to use The Secret in every aspect of your life—money, health, relationships, happiness, and in every interaction you have in the world.”

My favorite tips from the book:

So how am I going to go about making sure I am receiving positive things?

  1. Thinking as positively as possible.  I’m not the most optimistic person, but I am going to try my hardest to not let the little things bother me, and focus on what I want to accomplish.
  2. Making a vision board.  A vision board can basically be done on Pinterest by pinning the things you want.  However, I want to have something that I can hang in my closet, so every time I get dressed in the morning I see it.
  3. Keeping a gratitude journal daily.  There are a few bloggers that do this already, but I want to keep mine offline.  Not sure if I’ll be using my cell phone to track this or in a personal paper journal, but it will be someplace that I can access easily.

So, I have to ask…

Have you read The Secret?
What are you’re thoughts?
Would you be interested in reading it in the future, if you haven’

I must have been drawn to your blog today! It’s my first time visiting and I really need to re-visit The Secret. I read the book and loved the message, but then someone suggested I get the audio book and play it in my car. That has done wonders! You pick up something different every time you listen. Sometimes you aren’t ready for a piece until later, you know? I haven’t listened to it in a while, though… So tomorrow, it’s coming out!

Thanks for the reminder. Cheers~

That’s very exciting Carrie! I’m glad you stopped on by. I never thought about getting the audio book, but that sounds like a great idea!

I think it’s better to have the audio, even! You can hear it over and over, but most people don’t read the book often. It’s a bit more passive and good for people who are busy. Reading is active and we have to actually do it.

I did put my CD in my car today… It’s great to listen it again. I already picked up something different. I’m at a different point in my life now listening to it. That makes a difference, too. 🙂

I haven’t read the book, but I would be interested in giving it a look! I did a gratitude journal when I was abroad and just kind of dropped it when I got home, but I think it’s a great idea that I might have to pick up again!

I never read the Secret cover to cover.. but perused it a few years ago. I definitely agree with the philosophies in the book… It’s less about “hey act like a billionaire and you’ll become one” and more about “If you put positive and CONFIDENT energy out into the world.. it will be rewarded.” It pretty much comes down to believing in yourself. Some call it “fake it til you make it” .. but its really just putting yourself in a frame of mind to BE ther person you want to BECOME.

Good luck with the journal and inspiration board! Great ideas 🙂

I haven’t read the book and don’t really have a desire for it. Not sure why. I’ve been trying to do less thinking (actually OVERthinking) in my life and more doing. I’ve thought about traveling for a long time, thought about visiting people, and instead just decided to say f it and book the trips instead of waiting for the “perfect moment.” Not sure if this has anything to do or not do with the theme of the book, but that’s what I’m going with for now. 🙂 I haven’t touched Pinterest in months! It comes and goes in spurts.

I’ve had a vision and gratitude board for close to a decade now.
I. So. Believe!!

Interesting! I hope it works for me. I truly believe that it could.
